Kashmir Markhor
Years ago, I met a (now good) friend who told me about Kashmir and the markhors she grew up witnessing around her home. I had never heard of Kashmir or the political and natural history it held. The more I learned about Kashmir, the more it struck me just how small our own personal worlds can be, and how vast the world is. The image of a markhor became a metaphor for this idea. The ungulates I’ve seen in North America couldn’t compare to the presence this animal holds.
My aim with this sculpture is to capture the magnificence of the markhor so it serves as a reminder of how grand the natural world is. There’s so much of our world left to experience.
